Online Casino Wins Auction for White House Deed.
GoldenPalace.com is the online casino famous for buying the items like the Popemobile and a grilled cheese sandwich with an image of the Virgin Mary on it, but now, Richard Rowe, CEO of GoldenPalace.com has purchased the White House deed from an auction on ebid.tv.
GoldenPalace paid just $47 for the only known deed known to exist for the White. Proceeds from the auction will go to New Orleans Flood Victims. Far more was expected to be raised, however, due to Hurricane Katrina there was little room for media coverage so potential bidders were unaware of the auction. Moments before the auction was to close GoldenPalace swooped in and scored the bargain of the century.
GoldenPalace.com has a reputation for acquiring unique and extraordinary items through online auctions. Their numerous buys on eBay have made headlines worldwide, and they have received an enormous amount of exposure as a result.
'This unique item is a great example of American pop culture, and we think the Oval Office will make a great poker room,' joked GoldenPalace.com CEO Richard Rowe. 'This will make a great addition to our collection of eccentric and extraordinary items. People will get to see the deed when we bring it on tour with our other auction purchases.'
Online Casino pays $US 65,000 for Grandpa's ghost
An online casino offered $US65,000 for a metal walking cane that an Indiana woman put up for sale
in hopes her son would believe his grandfather's ghost would leave their house with it.
GoldenPalace.com will add the 'ghost cane' to a collection that already includes a grilled cheese
sandwich said to bear the image of the Virgin Mary.
The Antigua-based casino paid $US28,000 last month for the sandwich, which it bought - like the
cane - on eBay.
The cane - which Mary Anderson auctioned to ease her six-year-old son Collin's fears that his
grandfather's ghost was haunting their home - will probably go on tour like the famous sandwich.
The cane - and the story behind it - attracted 132 bids, dozens of imitators and landed the Andersons on
NBC's Today show on Monday.
'It becomes a pop culture phenomenon,' said Hani Durzy, an eBay spokesman. 'It may be just a few days or
whatever but it's all everybody is talking about.'
San Jose, California-based eBay Inc does not allow sellers to offer intangible items such as spirits or
souls where delivery cannot be confirmed. Anderson's auction made it clear that she was selling her late
father's metal walking cane as a ploy to ease her son's fears.
Anderson made one request of the winning bidder: 'I would like to ask you to write a letter after you've
received the cane [and the ghost] to my son letting him know that he's there with you and you're getting
along great.'
Isle of Man may lift US gambling restrictions
The gambling jurisdiction of Isle of Man, situated approximately half way between England and Ireland
in the Irish Sea, has recently been under proper examination. Local gambling authorities have been discussing
the opportunity to remove the restrictions on IOM-licensed casinos offering gaming to US players.
The Isle of Man may allow its licensed internet gambling operations to accept wagers from the American market.
The restriction concerning US gambling activity was implemented in order to favour the US large gambling
companies MGM Mirage and Kerzner International, which have since closed their IOM online operations.
However, according to the Online Gambling Regulations Act 2001 of Isle of Man, licence holders of Isle of Man
are free to determine the appropriateness of accepting bets from any jurisdiction, including the US.
So far, the Department of Trade and Industry has submitted a report to the Council of Ministers which
investigates the potential opportunities and risks regarding possible shift in the gambling policy.
The Department of Trade and Industry had consulted with interested parties, locally and internationally.
According to different resources, the government hails the initiative and is about to rule in favour of
allowing individual companies to decide for themselves whether or not to accept US bets.
New gambling policy is expected by different experts to give a substantial boost for the island's e-gambling
business.
